Kawatayamuna Raja Maha Viharaya කවටයාමුණ රජමහා විහාරය -Matale

පළමු වන ගජබා රජු සමයේ යෝධ සිරිසුමන් කවටයා විසින් මෙම විහාරය කර වූ බවට ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන් වන අතර ඉතා අලංකාර විහාර මන්දිරයක් සහ අලුතින් ඉදිවෙන දකුණු ආසියාවේ විශාලතම භාද්‍රසනාරුධ පිළිම වහන්සේ මගින් මෙම විහාරයට වඩාත් ආකර්ෂණයක් ලබාදේ.

අතීතයේ එක් එක් රජවරු යුධමය අවස්ථා වලදී සේනාව සංවිධානය කිරීම සඳහා මාතලේ ප්‍රදේශයට පැමිණ සේනාව එක්රැස් කරගැනීම සඳහා යොදාගත් ස්ථානයක් ලෙස ද මෙම ස්ථානය සැලකෙනවා. මෙම විහාරස්ථානය නිර්මාණය කරන ලද සිරි සුමන් යෝදයා මෙම විහාරස්ථානය ආශ්‍රිත ව අමුණක් නිර්මාණය කර ඇති අතර යෝධ සිරිසුමන කවටයා විසින් නිර්මාණය කරන ලද අමුණ පසු කලක කවටයාමුණ වූ බව ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන්.

It is said in history that this temple was built by the giant “Sirisuman Kavataya” during the reign of King Gajaba, and a very beautiful temple complex and the largest statue of “Bhadrasanarudha” in South Asia.

This place is also considered as a place where in the past, each king used to come to Matale area to organise the army and gather the army. It is said in the history that Siri Suman Yodaya, who created this temple, created an anvil in connection with this temple, and the anvil created by Yodha Sirisumana Kawataya later became “Kawatayamuna”.
